What we help with

Pension and investment transfers

If you were advised to transfer or switch a pension or investment, for example into a new product, platform or the adviser’s own funds, and it was not right for you through higher charges, lost guarantees or no real benefit, you may have a complaint. This includes giving up a defined benefit, or final salary, pension. We do not advise you whether to transfer; we look at whether the original advice was suitable.

Does this sound familiar?

What people usually tell us

Any one of these may be worth a conversation. None of them decides anything on its own.

You were moved from a workplace or final salary scheme into a personal arrangement.
You gave up a guarantee, such as a guaranteed annuity rate or guaranteed income.
Charges on the new arrangement are higher than the old one.
Nobody showed you a like-for-like comparison before you decided.
Your adviser moved to a new firm shortly before your pension followed them.
The transfer was described as your own choice, even though it was recommended to you.

Being straight with you

What this is not

This is about whether the advice to move was suitable for you at the time. It is not about whether the new investment has since gone up or down.

Being straight with you

Not everyone who asks has a complaint worth pursuing, and we would rather say so early than take on a case that goes nowhere. Many firms are also contacting affected customers and refunding them directly, for free. If that route is open to you, we will tell you to take it.

If we look at it

What helps us assess it

You do not need all of this to get in touch. If you no longer have these documents, we can usually request them from the firm on your behalf.

The suitability report or recommendation letter for the transfer
Details of the scheme you left, including any guarantees it carried
Charging information for both the old and the new arrangement
Any comparison you were shown before deciding

These are general descriptions. Whether you actually have a valid complaint depends on your own circumstances and the evidence, which we will assess with no obligation. We do not give investment, tax or legal advice.
