What we help with

Pension drawdown and retirement advice

If you were advised on how to take your retirement income, for example into drawdown, and it did not suit your need for security or sustainable income, or an annuity or a valuable guarantee was not properly considered, you may have a complaint. We do not advise you what to do with your pension; we look at whether the advice you were given was suitable.

Does this sound familiar?

What people usually tell us

Any one of these may be worth a conversation. None of them decides anything on its own.

An annuity was never properly discussed as an option.
You were relying on this money for essential income, and that was not taken into account.
The level of income being taken was never tested against how long it needed to last.
A guarantee in your existing arrangement was given up without being explained.

Being straight with you

What this is not

This is about whether the retirement advice suited your circumstances. It is not about market movements since you retired.

Being straight with you

Not everyone who asks has a complaint worth pursuing, and we would rather say so early than take on a case that goes nowhere. Many firms are also contacting affected customers and refunding them directly, for free. If that route is open to you, we will tell you to take it.

If we look at it

What helps us assess it

You do not need all of this to get in touch. If you no longer have these documents, we can usually request them from the firm on your behalf.

The suitability report for the drawdown or retirement recommendation
Details of any annuity quotations you were or were not shown
Information about your income needs at the time
Statements showing income taken and the fund remaining

These are general descriptions. Whether you actually have a valid complaint depends on your own circumstances and the evidence, which we will assess with no obligation. We do not give investment, tax or legal advice.
